Message from the Chair
It was a great honour to be appointed by CPHA’s Board of Directors as Chair of the Centenary Steering Committee. I was fortunate to be the CEO at CPHA for 30 of these 100 years (from 1973 to 2003) and the opportunity to be a part of the strategic planning process with so many public health volunteers representing a number of key working committees has been most rewarding and enjoyable.
Through the Centenary, we will learn a great deal about past public health challenges. Some of those challenges were overcome and some continue today, such as the increasing number of new and emerging infectious diseases. H1N1 is just one example of how the pubic health community faced up to and successfully responded to these challenges.
I hope many of you can join us at our centennial conference in Toronto in June for what should be a wonderful celebration and to usher in another 100 years of public health achievements!
