Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia

As Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia I am pleased to offer my congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA).

For 100 years the CPHA has worked to improve and implement standard health practices necessary for the basic health of all Canadians. As a result of vaccinations and disease-control strategies implemented by the CPHA, most Canadians never have to worry about getting diphtheria or smallpox. The CPHA has also played a vital role in the increased public awareness of the health consequences associated with tobacco products, alcohol and poor nutrition. We should never underestimate the number of lives saved or crises averted because of the efforts of the CPHA.

As new issues and challenges arise, we can be confident that the Canadian Public Health Association will work to ensure the well-being of our citizens. On behalf of Her Majesty The Queen and all the people of British Columbia, I would like to thank the Canadian Public Health Association for the incredible work it does to help keep Canadians strong, safe and healthy.

Sincerely,
The Honourable Steven L. Point, OBC
Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia
